I wanna start this off by saying I am not the most consistent of drawers. I don't do any practice, I don't try out different techniques, nothing like that. I put pencil to paper and I go and try. 

That being said, I'm sat here quietly amazed at how far I've come in the eight years I've been on deviantArt. I had a couple of years gap in drawing (focused on fic writing instead, I think) so I know my style/technique isn't as developed as it could be, but just for comparison:

That's insane. I mean, I'm literally astounded at the fact that I learned to draw humans properly. 

I can, uh, only hope I continue to improve like that because, um, wow? 

Thats all I wanted to say really. 

I would have written this last night, but it was 1am and it turns out I forgot to sign my picture so there was no way I could have coherently written a journal pfft. 

Anyway. 

Krita recently updated to 4.0.0 (which is hella, by the way!) and I'm so excited about it - there's a colourize filter that I really really want to figure out because it'll save so much time it'll be unreal. But, with the update, my favourite file of brushes disappeared - meaning I had to go searching for new ones. I couldn't find the brush I used for hair, so now I'm trying a new technique. I'm going to try it again today (working on another piece right now), because it looked awesome last night. 

Uhhhh... my computer screen keeps flickering to black so i'm hoping it's not dying.

Okay so I'm kind of amazed at the minute.

When I first started out drawing, I would sketch on paper first and then scan it into the computer and then draw in Photoshop CS5. Not awful y'know, but always needed improvement. And for a long while, like most of 2015 and  2016 I sketched traditionally and left it at that because I felt my digital art wasn't up to scratch.

Then, beginning 2017, I start drawing digitally again - but this time purely digitally, until about December. It starts out shaky, but improves quite a bit through the year. 

Now we're in 2018. We're a month into 2018. I've reverted to sketching and then scanning in to draw digitally. Now I'm both amazed and confused because: 1) I haven't changed my style of drawing, and 2) I haven't looked up any tutorials or anything, 3) I've been using references for ages??? But somehow my art is better. Like. How is that possible? 

I mean don't get me wrong I'm mega happy about it because I actually have a bit of confidence about it and I'm enjoying drawing at the minute. I'm just ????? How???? Has that happened????

Aaaand I cleaned up my gallery and swapped over the folder icons to something more readable - because my old lady eyes can't read that black and red tiny script pfft

I... am awful? At doing this journal thing? And drawing thing? And writing thing? 

Uhhhh... it's been a busy year. Lots of ups and downs, but I finally managed to draw something again so yay for that I guess? 

I literally have no updates? I think I just needed to change my journal um. 

SO YEAH. This is a thing. Apparently. 

I'm gonna go do a colour.
